How to Play Pickleball

New to pickleball? No problem! Pickleball is a fun, easy-to-learn sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. Whether you're playing for the first time or brushing up on your skills, here's what you need to know before stepping onto the court.

The Basics

  • Players: Pickleball can be played as singles (2 players) or doubles (4 players).

  • Serving: Start each point with an underhand serve or a drop serve, hitting the ball diagonally into your opponent's service court.

  • Scoring: Only the serving team can score points in traditional scoring. Games are typically played to 11 points, and you must win by 2.

  • Two-Bounce Rule: The serve must bounce before being returned, and the return must bounce before the serving team hits it. After these two bounces, players can hit the ball in the air or after a bounce.

  • The Kitchen: The area closest to the net is called the non-volley zone, or "kitchen." Players cannot hit the ball out of the air while standing in this area.
