Cultivating Connections: Bringing Mid-1800s Agriculture to Life at Missouri Town Living History Museum

Missouri Town Living History Museum is a proud Preserving America Partner, made possible by Americana Corner.  This partnership allows Missouri Town to expand its living history, enhance the visitor experience, boost volunteer participation, and create vital educational programming.  The Museum uses living history to give our audience a better understanding of the connections between the history of mid-1800s Western Missouri agriculture and its politics, economics, society, and culture. 

Our Cultivating Connections program will touch different aspects of our site over the coming years.  Our first year started with a look at our workshops, including the addition of programming space in the Webb House Dining Room, and provided the foundations of our school tour program.  Take a look below to see the changes to the Webb House!  The partnership allowed us to purchase period furniture to replicate how the home would have looked in the 1860s and provided space for programming and workshops.  Our plan is to make this space more visible and interactive for our guests, while maintaining historical accuracy.

Year two focused on how Cultivating Connections will enhance our livestock program through the addition of two new animal1s, expanded programming offerings, marketing efforts, and trainings for the staff on 1860s draft animal equipment.  

The Webb House has been a staple at Missouri Town Living History Museum for decades. It is one of our most iconic buildings and it is the first building that visitors see upon arrival.  The grant allows us to purchase period furniture to replicate how the home would have looked in the 1860s and provide space for programming and workshops.  Our plan is to make this space more visible and interactive for our guests, while maintaining historical accuracy.  The Webb House improvements included period furnishings and interpretive clothing, signage, programming, marketing, and stipends for craftspeople.

Missouri Town Living History Museum Updates

On October 4-5, 2025, Missouri Town Living History Museum unveiled the refreshed Webb House Dining Room, offering guests a brand-new way to step into the 19th-century life. The space now serves as a dynamic setting for workshops, hands-on demonstrations, and exhibits - including tape loom weaving presented by our living history interpreters.

Thanks to the generous partnership grant from Americana Corner, the museum has added new marketing materials, reproduction items, interpretive clothing, and expanded educational programs - resources used daily and designed to enhance the visitor experience for years to come.
