Come learn about the rise of private fur traders as they compete with the United States’ Factory trade house at Fort Osage and European powers such as Spain and Great Britain. Hear of the adventures of these intrepid traders as they reach Native American trading partners on the upper Missouri River. Walk through a fur trader’s camp, handle traps, trade goods and equipment used in the 1810s.

Come learn about the incredible life supported because of wetlands while working to transform Alex George Lake into one! Bring a water bottle and wear appropriate clothing. Appropriate clothing includes long pants, long sleeves, closed toe shoes (preferably sturdy or rubber boots). We suggest hats, sunscreen, bug spray and a water bottle. We will have snacks and warm drinks available.
